LICE!

It started off as a normal Saturday. The girls were showering for church, when one of my older girls Joselyn started to help Lesly blow dry her hair. She looked down and what did she find lice bugs crawling around in her hair! Alana and I spent the next eleven hours going through Lesly's hair, not getting to bed until after 3:30am! Poor Lesly was falling asleep from exhaustion. She didn't get out of bed until that afternoon. The problem with one girl having lice was that we have fourteen other girls who might have had it too. Sunday morning after church was spent washing bedding, clothes, checking and shampooing the other girls for lice. Thankfully only one other girl had them. Marisol had very few nits compared to Lesly, we were done going through her hair in an hour. Most of the female staff came to help out. We've been going through Lesly's hair everyday finding a few that we missed. Hopefully we will find and kill them all so that she doesn't have another outbreak. A dorm full of lice is the last thing I need.

Blessings

God loves to bless us, I'm learning. Yesterday we had an abundance of rain! It is so needed. When it started to down pour I rain outside bare foot and danced around. I felt like a little kid again. I couple of my girls peeked out of their classroom when they were on break and teased me but I didn't care. If they hadn't been in school I would have pulled then outside with me! I am hoping and praying for more!

Another amazing blessing is that my mom doesn't have cancer! God is so awsome!! A couple months ago my mom went to the doctor because she had a lump on her elbow that was making the area swell and was very painful. After many tests and a biopsy it was discovered that the lump was non cancerous. Instead it was a large nuerofirma. (A result of a genetic disorder that many people including myself have. For now they are going to leave it unless it grows larger or becomes more painful. So while she is still in pain I am so thankful that she will not have to battle a second bought of cancer!

Recently the girls' dorm has experienced a fun redo. The walls are now a bright blue! The bunks and cubbies were painted green. We also have new curtains to match that actually cover the windows and can't be seen through by peeping boys outside. My friends Janet and Leann along with my girls, Joselyn, Marvella and Julissa sewed the curtains. While the bunks were being painted the girls, Alana(my fellow dorm mom) and I relocated to a house used to host groups when they come. That was fun because we had a kitchen with a stove and toaster oven so we were able to make cookies, tea and hot chocolate. Tomorrow we are moving back to the dorm. All the girls are excited to move back to the newly painted dorm!

Back at the Ranch

It's good to be back home again. The kids have been trickling in for the past three weeks. It's surprising to see how late many of them are arriving. I'm still missing two girls, one is returning student and the other is new. It's hard not knowing if and when they will come back. I've grown so attached to them over the years. School has gotten off to a good start. We have two new teachers, Alisa and Charolette. Both are from southern California. They are great girls and it has been fun getting to know them so far. I have two new little girls in the dorm, Leslie who is nine and Celeste who is only five. Leslie is a ball of fire, always moving and very active. A cute fun girl but also very stubborn in wanting to do things in her own way and in her own time. Celeste is much more shy and reserved. They are already starting to pick up on sign and are becoming friends with the other girls.

It's hard to believe that the school year is almost over. Graduation is two weeks from today. The kids will all be heading home between the 6th and 8th of June. My friend Alisha and I will be driving to Lodi on the 11th. Time flies so quickly.

Last night we arrived home from a three day vacation. The kids and staff spent three days on the beach of San Flipe, which in the Sea of Cortez across the Baja peninsula from us. We all had a great time.
